(Pic for representation purpose) Noida: Disaster Management Cell (DCM), Noida will organise a Volunteers Training Programme (VTP) in association with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Sept 23-30, 2016 in sector 39 in order to achieve a disaster resilient Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway (NGY) region and district Gautam Budh Nagar at large. “In case of any disaster, the local community is always the first responder. It may take some time for district/state administration to mobilise rescue teams such as NDRF, SDRF, police, fire service personnel etc. but if the local people are properly sensitised and skilled about the precautions and proactive actions required to be taken in case of a calamity, the loss of lives and damage to property can be drastically reduced. Hence the said programme aims to generate awareness, preparedness and community training as key components amongst Disaster Response Volunteer’s (DRVs),” said Dr Kumar Raka, planning specialist and head, DCM Noida. The training – which is in association with NDRF, Shuttl (technical and logistics partner) and Policy Perspectives Foundation (PPF – knowledge partner) – will begin from Degree College sector 39 on Sept 23 and will be followed by an exhibition of search and rescue equipments. The aim of the DRV training is to achieve a disaster resilient NGY region, to involve community directly in disaster management so they can identify hazard around their habitat and understand how vulnerable they are, to train them to assist disaster affected victims and to harness volunteers as first responders in the event of a calamity.
